Who we are

Our existence is all because of them.

The story of the association, who runs it, and where it works.

West Jalinga Employees Welfare Association (WJEWA) is the workers' welfare body of West Jalinga Tea Estate in South Assam — a garden that has grown organic Camellia sinensis, chamomile, lemongrass and turmeric for generations. The association exists so that the people who make that possible are looked after in return.

Since 2022, our committee members have planned and delivered every project on this site — from mosquito nets in flood season to steel tiffin boxes for the plucking line — through open meetings, an Annual General Meeting, and a lot of door-to-door legwork across the garden's three divisions.

Every project starts the same way: a need is raised at a meeting, the association discusses and budgets for it, and members carry it out themselves — distribution by distribution, family by family.

West Jalinga Tea Estate is Fairtrade certified, and a share of the funding behind these projects comes from the estate's Fairtrade Premium — put to work by the association members who know the divisions best.
